Senor staff members from North Carolina’s Republican Mark Robinson’s governor’s campaign have resigned after news surfaced allegations surrounding posts from his past on a porn website’s message board. Over the weekend, Robinson’s campaign manager, deputy campaign manager, finance director, and senior adviser all stepped down, according to a statement provided to US media.

Robinson, who used to be a furniture maker but is now running as a politician and hopes to become the state’s first Black governor, reportedly described himself as a “black Nazi” on a porn website more than a decade ago, according to a report by CNN.

Robinson, an evangelical Christian, called the report “tabloid lies.” The BBC has not independently verified the CNN claims. “Let me reassure you, the things you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson,” he said in a video statement on X, formerly Twitter. Robinson since then has refused further comment on the matter.

Key campaign staff resigned shortly after the CNN report also alleged that Robinson had comments suggesting he favored Adolf Hitler over then-President Barack Obama. The report added that the notorious comments had since been removed from an adult website where they were initially posted.

He released a statement in which he reacted to the moves, stating, “I want to thank these team members for their hard work and for the difficult decision to leave the campaign.” Those who resigned included Conrad Pogorzelski, his senior adviser, who assisted with drafting much of the legislation Robin, then a state senator, submitted during his successful 2020 election as North Carolina’s lieutenant governor.

Speaking off the record, Pogorzelski confirmed to U.S. outlets that the group was leaving “of their own accord.” A former staffer cited increasing difficulty in aligning with the campaign’s values. “The scandals have taken a toll, and there was no clear path forward,” said the staffer in an interview not for attribution.

Despite all this, Robinson remains defiant. He issued a brief statement thanking his former team but stopped short of explaining the reasons behind their departure. Political analysts are more categorical, though, in opining that this major staff shakeup would seriously dent his prospects in the election.

As Robinson’s campaign tries to regain its footing, his opponents seize the moment, painting these resignations as evidence of disarray in his operation. Whether Robinson’s campaign can be salvaged is unclear, and with election day drawing near, time is running short.

The fallout has impacted more than just Robinson’s campaign team—it has also hurt his standing with donors and party leaders, who are reportedly distancing themselves from him. Public opinion polls reflect a sharp drop in support, making a campaign rebound increasingly difficult.

As of now, Robinson’s campaign has not announced any replacements for the departing staff, le
