AP, Jerusalem. Israeli strikes in the center of Gaza on Friday killed 25 people. Five of those killed were children. Earlier, 16 people were killed in two attacks in Nusirat refugee area on Thursday. Whereas 13 people have been killed in Israel’s latest air strikes in Lebanon.

Several air strikes took place on the night of Thursday-Friday in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut. Many buildings were destroyed in these attacks. It is suspected that some people may be buried under the debris of these buildings. Meanwhile, American diplomats are active regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon. Israel has also indicated that if its expectations are met then there may be a ceasefire there for some time.

Another senior Hamas official killed

The Israeli military said Friday it killed senior Hamas official Izz al-Din Kassab in an airstrike in Khan Yunis. The Palestinian group mourned Kassab’s death in a statement, and said he was killed along with another Hamas official, a man named Ayman Ayesh, in an Israeli strike on their car in the enclave. Hamas sources told Reuters that Kassab was a local group official in Gaza, but not a member of its decision-making political office.

Israeli attack on Lebanon-Syria border

Lebanon’s Transport Minister Ali Hamieh said an Israeli attack on Friday near a border crossing between northeastern Lebanon and Syria led to the partial reopening of the crossing. Hamieh said the attack occurred in the same location inside Syria, just past the Syrian border crossing, as Israeli bombardment closed the crossing last month. It was partially reopened to cars but not trucks, and is now closed again.

A fierce war continues between Israel and Hezbollah. In the past month, Hezbollah has fired more than 4,400 shells toward Israel. The IDF said Friday that Hezbollah had fired more than 4,400 shells toward Israel last month.

The IDF also said they detected more than 3,000 explosive devices in the past month, and found and destroyed 2,500 anti-tank missiles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). The IDF further stated that they have killed more than 1,500 militants since the beginning of the war.
