Presidential elections are going to be held in America in the month of November. Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris are face to face in the presidential race. Meanwhile, there is news that Indian-origin American astronaut Sunita Williams is going to create history in the elections.

Sunita Williams will vote from space in the US presidential elections. She is going to create history by casting her vote at a distance of about 400 kilometers from the earth’s surface.

The process started in 1997

The process of voting for astronauts in space started in 1997. By passing a bill in Texas, NASA astronauts were also given the right to vote from space. According to this law, if a person is in space, he can vote electronically. This law was made because most of NASA’s astronauts live in Houston, Texas. In this way, Williams will actually vote from space, just like David Wolfe.

Williams will have to follow a set procedure to cast his vote from space. They must first request an absentee ballot by filling out a federal postcard application. This means that astronauts have to apply for the election in which they want to participate. After this, a secure electronic ballot is sent to them from NASA’s Mission Control Center. After this they can cast their vote on the ISS computer system.
